The True Story of Black Hawk Down is a documentary on the Battle of Mogadishu based on Mark Bowden's bestseller "Black Hawk Down."
The Battle of Mogadishu is a largely forgotten yet extremely important event in U.S. military history. After Desert Storm, there was a prevailing attitude that America could exhort its will all over the globe with few repercussions. When 18 American soldiers were killed and images broadcast of dead bodies dragged through the streets of an enigmatic African city - it was a horrible blow to the National psyche. Some say it forever changed our relationship with the world, by making us reluctant to commit ground troops to world conflicts. Some say hundreds of thousands of lives could have been saved in Rwanda and Bosnia had we not been scarred by "Black Hawk Down."
The True Story of Black Hawk Down reopens this chapter in our history-telling us how we got there, what went wrong, and exploring the legacy. It is also a dramatic chronicle of the horror of modern warfare, and of the gallantry of brave men under fire.
The Program includes interviews with Mark Bowden and U.S. Rangers and Somali militiamen who fought in the battle.
